Railmonitor Never Stops Innovating

Railway Innovation

In our previous article, a brief introduction to the collaboration between the national infrastructure owner of Luxembourg, Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) and Railmonitor was made. In short, this collaboration aims to analyze and interpret all the data driven information to make it easier to detect early failures in switches in railway turnouts.

In this article, we will dig deeper into how this collaboration is beneficial for both CFL and us at Railmonitor.

We will look into how our package deal solution, TrackSwitch360 and The Digital Service Platform works, what the collaboration offers us and how our solution helps CFL. Enjoy the read.

How TrackSwitch360 and the Digital Service Platform works

TrackSwitch360 is mounted on the switch part in the turnout. It monitors the exact movements of the switch and provides a unique insight into how the switch behaves during a swing and also train passage. TrackSwitch360 also measures the gap between stock rail and switch rail, rail temperature and the performance of the switch point heater. All in all, our TrackSwitch360 solution monitor overall switch performance and using advanced algorithms, detects anomalies. Data gathered from our solution, TrackSwitch360 is processed and displayed in our Digital Service Platform as actionable intelligent analysis. Analysis which you can act on immediately, in real-time. Specifically develop for the railway industry. TrackSwitch360 and The Digital Service Platform comes as a package deal.

What the collaboration offers us – We never stop innovating

There is so much potential when digitizing the railway. We have only scratched the surface of what is possible. We at Railmonitor strive to know all there is to know within a digitized railway, however we know this will not be done overnight.

This collaboration has provided us with an opportunity to further innovate our TrackSwitch360 solution.  Nevertheless, this is merely the tip of the iceberg of which failure modes our solution will be able to detect.  So, we are constantly improving it and working to find new potential areas for development – new failure modes to detect. We are always looking for opportunities to improve our solutions.

How our solution helps CFL

CFL aims to digitize their railway infrastructure. In this regard they wanted a solution which would enable them to achieve a complete insight into their turnout as a whole. Currently they use a multifaced tool, DIANA, that evaluates the current consumption of the point machines. To improve specific failure mode detection, mechanical movement from TrackSwitch360 and current measurements are combined in a, never seen way, to understand the performance even better and create a toolbox for better diagnostics and on-site maintenance.
